Product Changes with Treatex: Naturally Superior Wood Finishes
Posted by Celtic sustainables on 9th Jun 2025
As you may already know, we are strong advocates of the Treatex wood oil range. They specialise in a variety of high-quality wood finish products that protect your wood from damage while enhancing its already stunning natural beauty. With years of expertise in wood oils, Treatex has listened to feedback and developed improved products for those of us who love using them. They have fine-tuned their interior oils to make them even better.
We explore their recent changes, focusing on the Natural Hard Wax Oil Ultra and Colour Tones Ultra.
The Natural Hardwax Oil Ultra has undergone a rebranding and is now part of the Treatex Ultra Colour Tones Range. This change was made to clarify the correct application instructions. The colour tones are suitable for various types of timber and can be used in a wide range of applications, including floors, doors, stairs, worktops, skirting, furniture, tabletops, toys, wooden instruments, and woodturning. You can build up the pigments with either one or two coats of colour tone, and Clear Hardwax Oil Ultra must always be used as the final coat when colour tones are applied; this is essential to protect the pigment colour, making it more durable.
Different name, the same great product from Treatex!
Hardwax Oil Ultra Soft White is a direct replacement for Hardwax Oil Ultra Natural
The second change is the Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra in Soft White is designed for light-coloured timbers to help prevent “firing” of the timber’s colour (the term used for when pine wood goes orange when you put a clear oil or varnish on it) – it’s a simple, single-use product.
It can then be left at the point as it is fully protected. Soft white dries to a dead matte sheen, so if the sheen needs to be increased, a coat of hardwax oil ultra clear in satin can be applied.
Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Soft White offers two fantastic application methods! It serves beautifully as a standalone finish, preserving the lovely light hues of timbers such as oak. Alternatively, for an even brighter appearance, it can be applied as a topcoat over Treatex Colour Tone Ultra ‘Spruce.’ You can enjoy exploring these options with the samples, which give you a really good idea of the finish.
The Treatex Ultra range is manufactured on a base of natural sustainable raw materials and then completed with natural pigments used to colour the oils. The oil is designed to penetrate deep into the wood and enhance its natural beauty. You can use this range and be assured that none of the finishes contain biocides, preservatives, or carcinogens, making it suitable for children’s toys, kitchens and even chicken coops and bee hives!
Applications of Treatex
- Ensure any previous finishes have been fully sanded off using 80 grit up to 120 grit sandpaper. All sawdust should be hoovered off, not washed off.
- Remember to stir your tins thoroughly before and during application.
- If applying to floors with underfloor heating, remember to turn it off during and after application so the finish has time to fully cure.
Tips for using Treatex
- Brushes can be cleaned with Treatex thinners, or cling film the brushes in between coats.

We’re excited to see the developments with Treatex. It shows that they truly consider how customers are using their products and strive to make the treatments easy to use. One last thing I want to mention is that if you use Treatex Ultra on flooring, you should consider their Floor Care treatment. I was initially sceptical about using this product, but I understood the risk of using bleach or other harsh cleaning materials, which could gradually strip the oils from my beautiful floor. After all the hard work I had put in, I wasn’t about to let that happen! I have been very impressed with this product. It is specifically designed to clean and maintain wooden floors without making them slippery. Made from natural ingredients like vegetable oils and carnauba wax, every time I clean my floors, a thin, replenishing, protective layer of wax is also applied. The product is pH neutral and contains no solvents or detergents that could damage your floor.
