Application

Suitable for: Floors, doors, stairs, worktops, wood-turning, skirting, furniture, instruments etc. Dense/oily timbers may require an addition of Treatex Thinner. Has a warming effect on some timbers.

Preparation: Make sure the surface to be treated is thoroughly dry. We strongly recommend a small trial application prior to starting a project.

When applying with a brush or roller

  • Sand 100-150 grit - Hardwax Oil should always be applied to bare timber or over a previous coat of Hardwax Oil
  • Apply the first coat using a good quality brush or roller - do not apply thickly as this will result in extended drying times
  • First coat will usually be dry within 3-6 hours with good ventilation and airflow
  • Apply the second coat using a good quality brush or roller
  • Usually ready for use after 8 hours
  • Usually ready for furniture after 18 hours

When buffing the first coat with a machine

  • Sand 120-150 grit - Hardwax Oil should always be applied to bare timber or over a previous coat of Hardwax Oil
  • Apply a thin coat of Hardwax Oil using a good quality roller
  • Leave for 10 minutes
  • Slow buff with a soft pad to remove excess
  • Finish using a lint-free cloth under the buffer
  • Leave for 45 minutes to dry with good ventilation
  • Apply the final coat with a high-quality microfibre roller - do not buff this coat as there won’t be enough product left on the timber to protect properly
  • Usually ready for use after 8 hours
  • Usually ready for furniture after 18 hours

Compatible with: Treatex Colour Tones / Hardener / Thinner / Natural Hardwax Oil / Wax Polish / Floor Care / Preparation Cleaner / R12 Anti-Slip additive.

Insider Tips:

  • For a really tough finish suitable for wooden floors in shops and cafes consider adding Treatex Hardener to your Hardwax Oil.
  • If Treatex Hardwax Oil is applied too thickly, drying time will be increased. To speed up drying time raise the room temperature and increase air flow by opening doors and windows, or using a fan.
  • Apply with a good quality brush or with a high quality microfibre roller.
  • Tightly wrap a plastic bag around wet rollers and brushes to stop them drying out between coats. NOTE: If you have added hardener, rollers and brushes will go hard even if they are wrapped in a plastic bag. Wet brushes and rollers can be cleaned using Treatex Hardwax Thinner.
