Warmshell Meshcoat is part of the Warmshell Exterior Wall Insulation (EWI) system. It is designed to be applied directly to Warmshell insulation boards, providing protection and ensuring a good surface bond for the finish coat. Once applied, it still allows the wall to breathe and provides additional protection against the weather.
Warmshell Meshcoat is made from natural hydraulic lime combined with natural and recycled aggregates, and can therefore be confidently used for ‘green building' or to meet specific environmental requirements.
Warmshell Meshcoat is part of the Lime Green Warmshell system, a breathable external wall insulation system that requires a reinforcement mesh and a protective top coat of Lime Green Finish WP.
Availability
- 20kg paper sacks.
Coverage
- One 20kg bag will cover approximately 1.8m2 at 10mm thick on a flat background.
- Yield is 1.1kg per mm of depth over 1m2.
- This does not include any allowance for wastage.
Surface Preparation
- Site planning must be addressed before starting work.
- Board surfaces must be dry and free of any material that may impair adhesion.
- Backgrounds should be completely clean, free from dust and contaminants, and not overly saturated.
- Verify that woodfibre boards have a moisture content of 13% or less using a suitable moisture meter such as the ETI 7250 for wood moisture testing.
- Sand any woodfibre that appears silver-grey due to UV exposure.
- Fill and sand any gaps larger than 2mm in the background before applying the Warmshell Mesh Coat.
- Consider installing movement joints to accommodate structural shifts, foundation movements, or large panels.
- Plan for daywork joints before starting work.
- Ensure facades are properly detailed to direct water away from the render, with appropriate beads and detailing for durability and weather resistance.
Mixing
- Warmshell Meshcoat should be mixed either with a suitable render spray machine or with a drill and whisk using 5-6 litres of clean water.
- Typical mixing time is between 5-10 minutes.
Application Guidelines
- Typical Thickness: 10mm
- Temperatures: above 5°C and below 30°C.
- Apply Warmshell Meshcoat in 2 passes on the same day.
- Following the first pass, embed the Warmshell 660 Render Mesh to cover the entire area, overlapping the joins by 100mm.
- Apply the second coat of the Warmshell Meshcoat immediately to achieve the final thickness.
- Thoroughly scratch in a horizontal direction no deeper than 3mm, using a render comb to produce a key.
Curing
- Prevent drying out too rapidly.
- Lightly spray each coat with water if it is hot or if the product is drying too quickly.
- Use Lime Green Finish WP as the final coat.
