A white mineral basecoat render designed for modern masonry applications, including dense blocks and contemporary brickwork. Forte is ideal as a scratch coat to create a level, uniform background before applying a compatible finish coat.
Packaging
Available in 25kg paper sacks with a shelf life of 6 to 8 months. Store in a cool, dry place.
Coverage
- Approximately 1.7kg per mm of thickness over 1m².
- One 25kg bag covers roughly 1m² at a thickness of 15mm. Wastage is omitted.
Surface Preparation
- Ensure the background is level, well-keyed, and dampened to manage suction.
- Suitable for porous backgrounds such as masonry—do not apply over old paints or similar surfaces.
- Clean thoroughly with diluted brick acid or, if needed, a fungicide to remove dust, oil, or other contaminants.
- Tape and protect windows and joinery.
How to Mix
- Use about 4 litres of clean water per 25kg sack.
- Mix for 3 to 10 minutes using a drum mixer or drill with a whisk attachment.
- Do not re-work once mixed.
- Working time lasts 1 to 2 hours.
Application
- Dampen the surface before applying to prevent rapid water loss.
- Do not apply if temperatures are below 5°C or above 30°C, and avoid direct sunlight.
- Apply Forte in coats of around 10mm thickness.
- For layers exceeding 15mm, apply in two coats, ensuring each is keyed before the next.
Curing
- Prevent rapid drying by lightly spraying the base coat if it dries too quickly or gets too hot.
- Protect fresh render from harsh weather conditions, including frost, rain, and direct sunlight.
- Using damp hessian tied to the wall can slow drying and shield from adverse weather.
Finishing Coats
Various finish coats and techniques can be used. Consult the relevant data sheet for the chosen finish coat before application.
Lime Green Tradirend, Natural Finish or Finish WP:
- Key the Forte with a regular pattern using a render scarifier.
- Leave to harden for 3 to 5 days and lightly re-dampen the Forte before applying the finish.
Lime Green Silicate Render:
- As the Forte hardens, remove all laitance using a lattice plane to achieve a light, regular, open texture.
- Allow to dry for at least 10 days, or 1 day per mm of Forte (whichever is the longest), before applying the Silicate Render.
