Fibrelime is a fine chalk-based mixture that provides a smooth finish. It can be applied to follow the contours of the underlying building to create a “wobbly” shape. Alternatively, if applied in multiple coats, it can be finished as a flat surface.
Fibrelime is prepared according to a traditional recipe that includes fat lime, chalk, and fibres, providing excellent flexibility for soft plastering and rendering mortar.
It is available as a dry, bagged material - simply add water and mix in the fibres using a paddle mixer. Due to its slow air-setting properties, Fibrelime is best suited for indoor use.
Fibrelime dries to an off-white (but can be painted with compatible paints).
When used outdoors, it should only be applied in sheltered outdoor areas, avoiding locations exposed to high levels of wind-driven rain. Fibrelime is very soft and porous and will require painting or limewashing if used outside.

Coverage
Approximate coverage rates at different thicknesses per bag:
- 1.5m² at 10mm
Preparation
- Backgrounds must be structurally sound and not saturated, friable, or dusty.
- Any loose material or old gypsum plaster should be removed before works start.
- Porous backgrounds should be dampened with water before use.
- For backgrounds with exceptionally high suction, or very poor key and limited suction, a suitable primer may be required – please ask for further details.
- External applications should be protected with suitable coverings to prevent rapid drying from wind and sun in place before work commences.
Mixing
- Add approximately 5 litres of clean water per bag, adjusting as required to achieve the desired degree of workability.
- Mix using a paddle mixer until a creamy, workable consistency is achieved.
Application
Do not apply in temperatures below 5°C or above 30°C.
On Masonry - Most Masonry will require pre-damping before work commences. For backgrounds with extremely high suction, a primer (Silic8) or stipple coat will be required first, and the Fibrelime should be built up in coats. This approach is also useful for patching large areas in masonry as it reduces shrinkage. On large areas or in hot, dry weather, it may be necessary to dampen the area just ahead of the Fibrelime being applied.
On Wooden Laths - Apply a coat of Lime Green Ultra first, key it and leave to set. After around 4 days, apply 1 or 2 coats of Fibrelime, depending on the degree of build-out and finish required.
Patching old Ceilings - Remove the loose material, lightly dampen the original or new laths, and thoroughly dampen the old-to-new plaster junctions before application.
Painting
Limewash can be applied within a few days. Allow at least 4 weeks for the plaster to dry before finishing with a breathable and compatible paint. Do not sand down Fibrelime as this will cause the surface to fluff.
