It’s the perfect time to freshen up your Baavet duvet the natural way

It’s the perfect time to freshen up your Baavet duvet the natural way

Posted by Sarah, Celtic Sustainables on 16th Apr 2026

With these sunny, dry days, it's a perfect chance to give your woollens a freshen-up! If you're like most of us at Celtic Sustainables, you probably have a lovely Baavet duvet and pillow.  Let's talk about how sunning your Baavet wool duvets, mattress protectors and pillows can keep them in good condition and crisp.

Wool Baavet Duvet Hanging on the washing line spring 2026

☀️The excellent weather lately has got me thinking about hanging out my Baavet duvet! Hang it outside and let the sun work its magic.

Discover the Comfort of Baavet Sheep’s Wool

  • Its antimicrobial properties, moisture-wicking ability, and dry fibres repel dust mites, ensuring a hygienic, sweat-free sleep environment.
  • So, no sweating, no dust mites, no bacteria.
  • Baavet helps you enjoy the most restful and cosy night's sleep you've ever had.

Do I need to wash my Baavet Duvet? No, you don’t!

Baavet wool duvets rarely need washing due to their natural self-cleaning properties; airing them in the sun is the best maintenance. For stains, spot-clean gently with mild soap and water. If essential, handwash or use a delicate machine cycle with wool detergent, then air dry; never tumble dry.

Maintenance & Cleaning Guide for your Baavet Duvet

Regular Care

Air the duvet outside on a sunny day. UV light kills bacteria and keeps the wool fresh, avoiding the need for washing.

Spot Cleaning

Gently spot-clean soiled areas with water and mild soap. Avoid harsh scrubbing to protect the wool fibers.

Washing Instructions

If washing is unavoidable:

  • Machine Wash: Use a delicate/wool cycle with wool-friendly detergent and cool/tepid water.
  • Hand Wash: Soak in cool water, gently sponge stains, and rinse thoroughly.

Drying

Do not tumble dry as this will cause the wool to felt and shrink. Hang to dry naturally away from direct, intense heat.

Dry Cleaning

Only use "green" or eco-friendly dry cleaners if absolutely necessary.

Remember, the less you wash your wool duvet, the better it maintains it's quality.

By regularly airing out your woollen pillows and duvets in the sunlight and spot cleaning as needed, you can preserve their breathability, softness, and durability, ensuring many comfortable years of use.

★ If in doubt, please follow the care instructions, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact the Celtic team for help and advice.
