Case Study: Keim Soldalit Protects a Beachfront Home in Llangrannog

Case Study: Keim Soldalit Protects a Beachfront Home in Llangrannog

Posted by Sarah, Celtic Sustainables on 10th Aug 2026

A freshly repaired coastal façade, a timeless white finish, and a silicate paint system built to withstand the Welsh weather.

One of our favourite parts of working at Celtic Sustainables is seeing our customers' projects come to life, especially when they're right here on our doorstep.

This beautiful home belongs to our local customer, Jill, and enjoys one of the most enviable locations in West Wales - right on the beachfront in Llangrannog. While the sea views are spectacular, the location also means the property faces some of the harshest weather conditions imaginable. Salt-laden air, driving rain, strong coastal winds and winter storms all take their toll on exterior walls year after year.

Following repairs to the rendered façade, Jill visited our Cardigan showroom to discuss the best paint system for protecting her home. After talking through the options, we recommended KEIM Soldalit White Silicate Paint.

Why paint exterior render?

Painting an exterior wall is about far more than improving its appearance. A quality masonry paint helps protect the render beneath, extending its lifespan and reducing maintenance in the years ahead.

Choosing the right paint is particularly important for coastal properties, where buildings are exposed to far more demanding conditions than those of inland homes.

Keim Soldalit Render Paint on Coastal Property

Why we recommended KEIM Soldalit

KEIM Soldalit is one of our favourite mineral masonry paint systems for heritage and coastal properties because it offers long-lasting protection without compromising breathability.

For Jill's home, it was the ideal solution because it provides:

  • Exceptional breathability, allowing moisture vapour to escape from the wall.
  • Outstanding resistance to rain, UV exposure and harsh coastal weather.
  • Excellent colour stability that won't quickly fade in the sun.
  • A durable mineral finish that chemically bonds to the substrate for long-lasting performance.
  • Protection that helps preserve both the render and the building's character.

Rather than trapping moisture within the wall, KEIM Soldalit allows the building to breathe naturally while shielding it from the elements, making it particularly well-suited to exposed coastal locations like Llangrannog.

The finished result

With the façade now finished in a crisp, bright white and complemented by a striking red front door, the transformation is complete.

We think the house looks fantastic. The fresh mineral finish enhances the property's character while providing the protection needed to withstand many more years of British coastal weather.

The decorating work was expertly carried out by local tradespeople Neil Zerk and Cai Higgs, whose workmanship has produced a beautiful finish.
