Ecofan Stove Fans FAQs

How does an Ecofan work?

The Caframo Ecofan is self-powered and doesn’t need any batteries. The Ecofan has a thermoelectric module which generates electricity using the temperature difference between the bottom and the top of the fan body.

The Seebek Effect - When two dissimilar semiconductors (p-type and n-type)are connected at the same temperature they establish a static electric potential difference when the temperatures are equal. With the introduction of a temperature difference, heat flows across the joined semiconductors which in turn permits electrons to flow. This electron flow (current) gives us the ability to power electrical devices such as the fan’s motor.

Which Ecofan do I need?

There is no formula to say which Ecofan is required in a particular situation.

The 812 AirMax is the ultimate choice as it will move the most air and will be the most efficient. The 810 UltrAir will provide slightly less air movement and start working at a slightly higher temperature but still provide excellent results.

For minimal outlay, opt for the basic 800 Original or, if space is an issue, go for the 815 Original Mini which will provide reduced performance but still improve your comfort.

For units with lower temperature surfaces such as gas, pellet or contemporary Stoves we recommend the Ecofan 806 BelAir.

If you are restricted by height, the Ecofan 815 original Mini is only 165mm high, but it still has the quality and performance you would expect from a Caframo Ecofan.

What Temperature does the fan need to reach in order to operate.

The Ecofan will start to rotate once the base of the fan has reached a temperature of 65°C however to achieve a worthwhile air movement of 50 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) the 812 AirMax needs to reach 85°C, the 810 UltrAir needs 100°C, the 800 Original needs 110°C and the 815 Original Mini needs 115°C to operate.

PLEASE NOTE: Overheating will reduce the Ecofan’s effectiveness and may damage the thermoelectric module and void the warranty. Remove the Ecofan from the stove if the temperature exceeds 345°C for the 800, 810 or 812 or 200°C for the Ecofan 806 BelAir.

You can easily check the normal temperature of your stove with a stovetop thermometer

What Maintenance will my Ecofan require?

Ecofans have been designed to operate maintenance free. If you would like to clean your Ecofan, use a detergent free cloth to wipe down the extrusions.

Can I buy spare parts for my ecofan?

Replacement motor kits are available for purchase.

Are Ecofans Guaranteed?
