Breathaplasta Smooth is a versatile finishing plaster suitable for various internal backgrounds, including plasterboard or an overcoat to existing plaster surfaces such as other Adaptavate plasters. Efficient application with a fast setting time, Breathaplasta Smooth is typically applied to a total thickness of 3mm in two passes (base coat 1-2mm and top coat 1-2 mm)
Ideal when used as a two-coat skim finish or top-coat plaster for most internal walls and ceilings, and can be applied over old lime plaster with a primer.

Surface Preparation
- Consolidate loose material and brush away dust.
- Spray or brush water onto porous substrates, such as existing lime plaster, before plaster application to reduce suction. Typically, a light mist is applied 2-3 times within 10-20 minutes prior to plastering.
- Use a primer when plastering onto different background types to help unify suction rates.
- A primer is necessary for specialist plasterboards and may be needed before overcoating existing plaster surfaces that lack a good mechanical key.
Mixing
- Mix Breathaplasta SMOOTH (decant the bag slowly) with approximately 7 litres of cool, clean water per 20kg bag of dry powder.
- Mix with a paddle mixer at medium speed for at least 2 minutes until all dry powder is incorporated and free of lumps. Allow the mixture to stand for 5-10 minutes to improve consistency.
- Mix again at medium speed for 1 minute until you have a smooth, creamy consistency. The ideal texture is loose and flowing, not thin or runny.
- Adjust the powder-to-water ratio as needed to achieve the desired consistency suitable for your substrate and working style.
Application
- Apply a plaster coat 1-2mm thick, avoiding overworking the plaster. Ensure the surface is flat and smooth before it sets.
Setting Time
- Allow the plaster to set and become firm.
- In warm, dry conditions, setting typically takes 45-60 minutes; in cold, damp conditions, 90-120 minutes.
- When returning to the plaster, it should feel firm but not fully dry. For optimal results, apply additional coats on the same day.
Finishing
For a smooth finish: Use a hard trowel to compress the plaster to a total thickness of 2mm, then trowel smooth. Optionally, use a lightly dampened sponge float in circular motions, then finish with a clean trowel to achieve a polished, smooth surface. Be cautious not to overwork the plaster and avoid using water during finishing.
For a lightly textured finish: Compress the plaster to 2mm thickness with a hard trowel, then smooth the surface with a damp sponge float in a circular motion.
