Paul Davies MS visits Celtic Sustainables to see employee ownership in action
Posted by Celtic Sustainables on 5th Oct 2026
We were delighted to welcome our local member of the Senedd, Paul Davies MS, to Celtic Sustainables last Friday, when he spent time with our team at our base in Cardigan to learn more about the business and our recent move to employee ownership.
Paul took the opportunity to hear about our work supplying sustainable building, decorating and energy-saving products to customers across Wales and the UK.
His visit came at an exciting time for Celtic Sustainables. In July 2026, the business became 100% employee-owned, with ownership transferred to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). The move was made by founder Dr Glyn Hyett as part of his long-term plans for the future of the company.
Rather than pursuing a conventional sale to an external buyer, Glyn chose a model that allows Celtic Sustainables to remain independent, retain its roots in Cardigan and give the people who work here a genuine stake in the future of the business.
Paul Davies recognised the importance of that decision during his visit:
“This is a fantastic example of a successful local business planning for the future while making a firm commitment to Cardigan and the people who work here."
“Glyn could have pursued a conventional sale but instead has chosen a model designed to keep the businesses rooted in the area, safeguard local employment and give employees a stake in their future."
“That really matters in rural communities like ours. We need skilled, good-quality jobs that allow people to build careers here in west Wales.”
“Most importantly, this move to employee ownership means expertise that has been built up over more than two decades can remain here in Ceredigion and be passed on to the next generation."
For us, that is exactly what employee ownership is about. It isn't simply about who owns the company. It is about protecting the values that have shaped Celtic Sustainables, recognising our team's contribution, and building a business that can keep growing here in Cardigan for many years to come.
As a 100% employee-owned business, our team now has a shared interest in the long-term success of Celtic Sustainables. Our focus remains the same: helping customers make better choices for their homes and the environment, while creating lasting value for our employees and our local community.
We'd like to thank Paul for taking the time to visit us and for his interest in what we're building here in Cardigan.
Employee ownership marks a new chapter for Celtic Sustainables, but our commitment to Cardigan, our customers and our values remains firmly at the heart of what we do.
