Celebrating RHS National Gardening Week and Water Saving Week This May!
Posted by Sarah, Celtic Sustainables on 12th May 2025
This month, we celebrate two ‘awareness weeks’: RHS National Gardening Week (April 28th-May 4th) and Water Saving Week (May 12th-16th). These are significant events that raise awareness and highlight the importance of the environment and sustainability, as well as saving water for the benefit of people, the environment, and the economy.
What is National Gardening Week?
National Gardening Week was launched in 2012 to encourage more people to get involved in gardening and to highlight its many benefits. Each year, the campaign brings together individuals, schools, community groups, and public spaces to celebrate gardening, biodiversity, and outdoor activities. This year's theme focuses on supporting new and beginner gardeners. The campaign offers plenty of inspiration, guides, and activities designed to help people start their gardening journeys with confidence, whether they have a windowsill, balcony, or garden plot.
This is a call to action! It's time to start plotting and getting involved in projects in your area to create a sustainable future.
We recently discussed how our selection of water butts with planters, planted with bee-friendly plants can help promote wildlife, including vital pollinating insects, back into your garden. Our space-saving water butts feature a sleek design and can hold a significant amount of rainwater for use in your garden. Here is our full list of water butts with planters and suitable garden plants that would work well in them
What is Water Saving Week?
Water Saving Week is an essential annual campaign aimed at raising awareness about the need to conserve water and use it more efficiently. If you've put in the effort to prepare your garden for summer, you'll want to have the right rainwater storage options in place so you can collect enough water for the long days ahead.
The campaign encourages everyone to use less water by implementing simple changes, such as fixing dripping taps and taking shorter showers. It also promotes awareness in workplaces and engages school children by encouraging them to participate in water-saving activities. Why Water Saving Matters
It is more important than ever to use water wisely, especially given the increasing demand and climate variability. Saving water reduces energy use, protects ecosystems, and ensures a sustainable supply for future generations.
You can contribute this May by installing downpipe filters and water butts to start saving your own water. In conjunction with Water Saving Month, we are offering discounts on some of our decorative water butts.
