I have a damp house. What paint should I use?

Damp problems usually don’t get any better or can be extremely costly when damp escalates. Damp can cause problems such as painting peeling off the interior and exterior walls or mould patches spreading. This is usually consequences of using modern conventional materials that are not breathable – they do not allow buildings to push out water vapour.

Using a dehumidifier can help with reducing the levels of humidity. However to save you a lot of property damage and redecoration costs, using breathable eco paint is essential rather than conventional paints and masonry materials that often contain acrylics and are not breathable.

For exterior use Earthborn Silicate Masonry Paint is breathable and very hard wearing.

For interior use the Earthborn Claypaint, or other paints made from natural materials such as the Naturepaint caesin based paint are ideal.

Should I use breathable paint for my kitchen and bathroom?

Build up of condensation in the bathroom and kitchen is a very common problem, this can be solved with more ventilation, which leads to heat loss. Normal bathroom and kitchen paint may cover up the visibility of condensation but these paints are not breathable and trap water. For long term and long lasting solutions using a durable breathable paint over a breathable plaster (such as lime plaster) is perfect in kitchens and bathrooms.  If the room is previously painted with conventional paint, using a clay or chalk based paint will help as they absorb and release moisture as the humidity changes. Try Naturepaint for a durable breathable kitchen and bathroom paint.

I need paint that will cover mould

In old buildings it can be very difficult to get rid of mould. Like damp the building interior and exterior walls need breathable paints to let out water vapour. Breathable eco paints such as Earthborn Clay Paint is the perfect solution for mouldy walls. The Earthborn Silicate Masonry Paint and primer are highly alkaline which also prevents mould from returning on exterior walls.
